Lava photo from 1-15-2025

We would love for you to see lava, but we cannot control if that is possible.

If there is lava the day before your tour we will ask if you would like to start earlier. We have not had consistent lava since 2022, so we have pulled our 5 AM start time for now; it was the most popular back when lava was consistent.

5 Hours

The Park
We aim to show you more of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park than you would see on your own. The earlier, the better; we want to avoid traffic as much as possible.
Hiking
The National Park requires a 1-mile walk to meet us in the Park. We have several great hikes to choose from and they all have stunning views.
Snacks
You will not have time for a lunch stop during the tour. We provide snacks and water. We are happy to suggest places to eat after or before the tour.
Get the most…
We want you to get the most out of your day and your time with us. We recommend smaller groups for this tour so we can move quickly, we recommend under 8 people.

• A National Park Certified Interpretive Guide (Volcanoes National Park).

• 5 hours of time – for most people, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the world’s most active volcano, and most people want to see as much of the National Park as possible.

• Hand sanitizer, wipes, paper towels, sunscreen.

• Use of binoculars, 4 trekking poles, plastic ponchos, and umbrellas.

• Bottled water.

• Snacks such as trail mix, chips, and granola bars. We include gluten-free snacks in the form of nuts, Hawaiian Chips, and Skinny Pop.

• Private transportation in an air-conditioned vehicle with DVD media.

• Free photos of the family/group uploaded to Smugmug.  See family photos here https://bigislandvip.smugmug.com

• A light raincoat is best for the rainforest areas of the National Park. Hawaii is the rainest State in the U.S. so you may need a raincoat several times.

• Closed-toe shoes are best. Lava rocks are sharp and we don’t want you to cut your toes. You do not need hiking shoes on this tour, as most paths are paved.

• A hat can be useful.

• If you have a handicapped parking pass it can help reduce walking. All States and countries are recognized in Hawaii.

• If you collect National Park stamps, bring your stamp book.

If you have children under 8 please bring your own car seats and boosters.

• Lunch

• Gratuities for your guide.

• We do not allow wet food to be consumed in our vans, only dry snacks like we provide.

• If you would like more time please book the longer tour, or pay cash on the day.

This day is action-packed, it’s customized to you and your ohana. If you want to do some hiking I recommend we discuss the hiking options the day of the tour so we can see what the weather is doing and discuss all you want to see.

The Team

In the words of Dr. Jagger, “To know a volcano is to live with a volcano”. Jodi and Rob took that seriously and live in a neighborhood landlocked by Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
