Experience Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in it’s full splendor. The Park has so much to offer it is easy to spend an entire day in the Park.
Lava is back! In Halemaumau Crater! You can see the lava best when it’s dark and you can sometimes see lava during the daylight as well. It’s your vacation, let us help you make the MOST out of your time! This tour is longer than our other Meet in the Park to show you more of the Park, this tour allows time to drive to the end of Chain of Craters Road.
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a World UNESCO Heritage site and the National Park is about the size of the island of Oahu. In 6 hours, we can’t show you everything but we can show you a LOT and show you some incredible things you wouldn’t see on your own. On this tour, you will learn about Hawaii volcanoes, walk through lava fields, see video footage of eruptions, and learn about native plants and birds. We do a minimum 1-mile walk on a paved path.
You will see steam vents, lava trees, fissure cracks, pit craters, and caldera. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is about the size of Oahu and has some amazing and unique scenery. We will take you through the lava tube Nahuku (also known as Thurston) and explain how lava tubes form. In 6 hours, we do about an hour and a half of driving total, we spend a lot of time exploring the Park and walking around. We can do more driving if we have some customers with mobility challenges, we still need some in the group to walk a mile with us.
For the BEST experience see it at sunrise, book the 5 AM start, then have breakfast at the Volcano House after the tour. You can also leave the driving to us and book our Kona Volcano with a pickup on the west side of the island. If you are staying in Hilo we can pick you up there as well. Since not everyone can get up early we do have some afternoon tours as well, please be aware you are much more likely to experience rainy weather in the late afternoon. The Park becomes very crowded in the afternoon so you may see less because parking and lines become a challenge.
**Dress code: It will be COLD sometimes. Dress in layers and bring a raincoat, the rainforest rains almost daily. We only provide raincoats for adults. Please ensure children are dressed accordingly.**
This tour is an all day exploration of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is is best done if staying somewhere on the east side of the island due to hiking and exploring in the Park.
