This action-packed day allows you to experience the island from the comfort of a large 10-passenger van all to yourself.  The day is filled with riveting DVD videos about volcanoes, lava flows, and more.

We take care of the driving and allow you to relax in our 2022 Sprinter vans with reclining seats, phone charging outlets and cup holders.  

This tour spends about 3-4 hours in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and there is plenty of time to stop for a meal along the way.  We can easily fit in a stop for a black sand beach and waterfall if you wish.  There are several other customizations that can be done.  For the BEST LAVA choose sunrise.

To see lava right now it is about a mile walk each way on a mostly paved path.  We can not control molten lava or if you will see active lava.  We do not guarantee customers will see molten lava, we want all our customers to see lava.

Due to the active lava in the National Park, it is taking longer to see the Park.  

This fully customizable tour also includes some of the below options depending on the direction traveled.

Excellent tour with Jodi! She knows Volcano National Park like the back of her hand! My family enjoyed the private tour and thoughtful commentary. We appreciated her flexibility when asked to accommodate some unplanned stops at the farmer’s market and to catch a glimpse of the sea turtles. She captured great pics of us all together, which never happens when we travel! Our own traveling photog was an extra special and unexpected touch. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kona.

Rob was so accommodating to our family of 5 – from our itinerary that hit our “must-sees” of waterfall, black sand beach and the volcano at nighttime to additional roadside stops for coconuts and malasadas that were a highlight for our teenage boys. Rob & Jodi were magnificent! Rob tailored the tour we chose to meet our needs. They picked us up in a Mercedes 11 passenger van. Very comfortable and fairly easy to get in and out of for those who have minor mobility problems- a huge plus! Both Rob and Jodi were personable, and blended so well with our group it felt like we were with old friends instead of a newly met tour guide. Highly recommend them. They hit great spots, shared history & knowledge while keeping the tour moving. Never any “deadtime”

We really enjoyed our time with Rob. He helped us customize our day together and is a very knowledgeable about the island and history. Rob also provided additional ideas and suggestions for activities to do and see on our other days. This tour was precisely what we were looking for to introduce my two brothers and sisters-in-law to the Big Island. We enjoyed each of the stops Rob selected on the way to Volcano. Rob was a great guide. Due to the government shut down just 2 days before rob had to come up with an alternative tour. The ” new tour” was excellent. He took us to parts of the island that had been affected by the huge eruption just 6 months ago. The roads had only been open to the public just 10 days prior. So we got to actually visit a site with fissures and still smoking holes in the ground! We got much closer than I’m sure we would have had we gone to volcano national park! He had great videos too!

Just wanted to let you know we were 100% satisfied with Big Island Tours. Rob gave us one tour and Jodi gave us another and we felt both were excellent. In the case of Jodi, the car did break down as to air conditioning, but she resolved the problem in a professional manner. As to Rob, particularly liked his presentation at the painted church wherein one could have just gone in, looked around and said “nice” but by the time he was done talking, it left an impression for me that will last a lifetime.

My husband, 10-year-old son and I booked with Rob for a sunrise tour of Volcano and Kona Coast in April 2018. Rob was prompt in his arrival to our hotel, informative in his explanation and history of events and very open to altering our agenda. We tend to prefer off-the-beaten track areas and had already driven the island on our own. He was able to take us to areas we had not already explored. It was a wonderful days’ journey.

We could not have been more pleased with rob as our tour guide. He was willing to customize our tour as we requested and offered wonderful advice. He picked us up on time at our hotel in a beautiful clean van and provided water and snacks as well. He is very knowledgeable about the history and culture and geography. He was professional and courteous. We invited him to join us for lunch and dinner but he just hung around close by instead. He took photos of us and later provided a link to them.
